Sheila Read
LCSW

Sheila Read, LCSW, is an EMDR therapist who specializes in anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationships and childhood trauma. She integrates a variety of approaches to treat the whole person - mind, body and spirit. Sheila is currently pursuing advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, with a focus on attachment issues and relational trauma. EMDR is an evidence-based somatic therapy for trauma that transforms the neurophysiology of disturbing memories that affect self-esteem and emotions today.

 

Sheila also has specialized training in Subtle Yoga for Behavioral Health, which uses breathing and gentle mindful movement to help regulate the nervous system. Other modalities of therapy she frequently uses include Dialectical Behavior Therapy and mindfulness-based interventions.

About Sheila

Sheila received her master’s degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2002 and worked in a variety of settings, including psychiatric hospitals, medical hospitals, and community mental health, before starting her private practice in 2015. Her approach is gentle, focused, and challenging. She excels at creating a space where you feel safe to approach painful issues and overcome fears about making changes.

Sheila has been married to her partner for 22 years. In her free time, she loves hiking, backpacking, running, gardening, reading, and watching birds in the backyard.
